DANTES pre-funds CLEP & DSST test fees for the first attempt at all test titles for eligible military personnel. Military members receiving a retest must use civilian test registration procedures to pay for test costs, as DANTES does not pay for retests.

If you or your spouse meet these criteria, you can take your first attempt at taking the DSST or CLEP course for free. This means that taking the exam for the first time is free. If you do not pass the exam, you can take the exam again, but it will not be financed - you have to pay yourself.

If you take the test at an off-base, non-fully funded test center, the test fee will be covered. You must pay for any administrative fees yourself.

If you are testing at a base or base, fully funded test center, testing and administration fees will apply.
